Zelina Vega Thinks WWE Could Have Done More With Queen's Crown

Zelina Vega thought the Queens Crown could have been an equivalent of a midcard title

Zelina Vega is on the back of perhaps her biggest ever match in WWE after losing out to Rhea Ripley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Backlash 2023, though this isn’t the first time she has brushed with a potential push in the company. In 2021, Zelina Vega won the Queen’s Crown Tournament, though it led to nothing outside of an underwhelming Women’s Tag Team Title reign.

In an interview with Fox News, Vega detailed how she expected more from the Queen’s Crown Tournament, and how it could have been treated somewhat like a women’s midcard belt.

“When I won that crown, I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m down to put it on the line.’ Like, we’ll have matches for the crown. There were so many ideas that I had for Queen of the Ring. But I think because it was just so new, and it was the first ever, you know, they put me in with Carmella, and it got kind of complicated to try and do all of that at once. I do think it would be beneficial definitely to have another title, another opportunity for other girls to win some gold."

WWE had announced a Queen of the Ring tournament for this year which would culminate in Saudi Arabia, but with WWE changing the event to be called Night Of Champions, it isn’t clear if the tournament will still be taking place.
