Similar to the promotion's tag team titles, there have been multiple versions of the WWE Women's Championship during the company's long history.

WWE introduced the current version of the WWE Women's Title in 2016, replacing the Divas Title at WrestleMania 32 in a Triple Threat between Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks.

The new WWE Women's Title wasn't around for long, however, as it became the Raw Women's Championship when WWE reintroduced the brand split later in 2016. The belt then became the WWE Women's Championship once again in 2023 when WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H looked to move away from championships being named after the specific brand they were featured on, and the title has been featured on SmackDown since 2023.
