Mercedes Moné & Megan Thee Stallion Originally Planned To Work Together In AEW

Megan Thee Stallion & Mercedes Moné originally planned to work with each other in AEW

WWE SmackDown’s recent refresh saw the blue brand adopt Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Neva Play’ as the new show opening theme song, potentially meaning a discussed Megan and Mercedes Moné programme in All Elite Wrestling won’t be happening for now.

A report from PWInsider states that Moné and Megan had discussed the possibility of working together in AEW after striking up a friendship at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in Japan, with representatives from both camps in discussions about making something happen.

Moné went as far as to publicly state she wanted to try and get Megan in a ring after the two sides ‘agreed’ to do something together, but the reveal of ‘Neva Play’ as the new SmackDown theme has apparently ‘surprised’ Moné’s circle, with it suggested WWE may have licensed the track after Moné publicly mentioned Megan during press duties ahead of AEW All In 2023.

There’s no word on if the licensing move by WWE could scupper any potential plans for Megan and Mercedes in AEW. WWE have long been fans of Megan Thee Stallion, having originally made a play to get the Grammy Award winning star to appear at SummerSlam 2021, but despite advanced talks and agreements between the two sides nothing came to fruition.
