Report: Major Match Planned For AEW X NJPW Forbidden Door II

Major plans for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

A major match is currently planned for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door on Sunday, June 25.

It emerged back in March that it was hoped Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay II would be able to take place at Forbidden Door but the match was up in the air due to Ospreay's shoulder injury. The chances of the match taking place increased on May 21, however, after Ospreay advanced to the final of the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title number one contender's tournament. He will face Lance Archer at Dominion on June 4.

Promotional material for the tournament hinted the winner would challenge Kenny Omega for the gold at Forbidden Door and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that Will Ospreay was scheduled to beat Archer at Dominion and the belief is he will then face Kenny Omega for the IWGP United States Heavyweight Title on June 25.

A potential hiccup could be Ospreay's shoulder injury, though. Despite returning to the ring, the shoulder was still bothering the 30-year-old during his win over Hiroshi Tanahashi on May 21. If he will need to take additional time off is currently unknown.
