Report: Vince McMahon Looking To Repair Reputation & Avoid Comparisons To Harvey Weinstein With New Memorandum Filings

Vince McMahon looking to avoid comparisons to Harvey Weinstein, according to new report

Vince McMahon's legal team have continued to file motions in relation to the lawsuit filed against the 78-year-old, WWE, and John Laurinaitis by Janel Grant, with a memorandum on May 13 arguing that Grant's attorney's motion to strike his prior memorandum from the record should be denied.

McMahon's legal team claimed within the memorandum that Grant's motion was "the height of hypocrisy." Several allegations were also made by McMahon, including that Janel Grant's text messages to McMahon were "equally and often more aggressive and provocative than Defendant's communications and show not only that the relationship was consensual, but also that in many instances the Plaintiff was the initiator."

McMahon's legal team also claimed in the new memorandum that discovery in the case will show text messages within which Grant said she was in love with McMahon, that she "enjoyed being in pain" and "wanted rough sex", and that she wanted McMahon to "watch her have sex with other people and know about her sex with others."

Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that McMahon's filings are an attempt to rehabilitate McMahon's image and avoid comparisons to Harvey Weinstein as McMahon wants to continue being a businessman despite the allegations against him.

"They need to rehabilitate his image enough to where he can do business as a businessman because that's what he wants to do. Whether it's wrestling, which apparently from what I'm told it's not wrestling, but he absolutely wants to do this. He wants to not have this name, he doesn't want to be Harvey Weinstein. The only way he can do that is to basically make it look like and portray it as this crazy, lying woman, and I absolutely had an affair with her, but all that stuff that she said, every single bit of it, is not true except for the text messages. The reason you say that is you can't argue the text messages," Meltzer said.

Janel Grant filed a lawsuit against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis in January 2024. McMahon has been accused of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse by Grant, while Laurinaitis has been accused of sexual assault. It has been alleged that WWE attempted to cover up the allegations against McMahon.

McMahon's legal team have since filed a motion requesting arbitration, as has Laurinaitis' legal team following a U-turn. WWE are expected to file to compel arbitration as well.

Harvey Weinstein is a convicted sex offender and he is currently in prison after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault in 2022 in California. He was convicted of two sex crimes in New York in 2020 but that conviction has since been overturned and a retrial has been ordered.
