Report: Why WWE Scrapped The Roman Reigns Acknowledgment Ceremony Revealed

While a Roman Reigns acknowledgement ceremony featuring "every generation" of The Bloodline was originally scheduled for the 30th-anniversary episode of Monday Night Raw, the segment was scrapped over the weekend and The Bloodline will instead hold a trial for Sami Zayn. The announcement comes after further issues between Sami Zayn and Roman Reigns on the January 20 edition of SmackDown. 

When the acknowledgement ceremony was first announced, many speculated it would feature the WWE return of The Rock but the segment being scrapped only seemed to confirm reports that The Great One would not be returning to the company for a WrestleMania 39 match with Roman Reigns. 

Instead, though, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has reported that WWE scrapped the segment because Afa and Sika of The Wild Samoans and Rikishi were unable to make the Raw 30th anniversary. Rikishi was sick last week, while Afa and Sika were "not ready for the trip", which caused plans for the segment to fall apart. 

In fact, according to Meltzer, The Rock was never booked for the segment, nor did WWE switch up their plans because of Vince McMahon. The 77-year-old recently returned to WWE as Executive Chairman and he has reportedly been making suggestions on creative, although it has been reiterated that Triple H retains the final say on creative matters. 

Other segments announced for tonight's episode of Raw include a United States Title match between Austin Theory and Bobby Lashley, and a Steel Cage Match between Becky Lynch and Bayley.
