Why AEW Wrote Buddy Matthews Off TV

Reason revealed for Buddy Matthews being written off AEW TV

The House of Black’s Buddy Matthews was recently written off of All Elite Wrestling TV, with Buddy falling victim to a con-chair-to at the hands of Christian Cage and the Patriarchy in a backstage attack on the June 15 edition of AEW Collision.

Speculation aroused as to why Buddy was taken off TV, with some believing the former AEW World Trios Champion could be dealing with injury. However, a report from PWInsider has shed some light on Matthews’ condition, revealing that Buddy is not currently injured, but was given time off to return to Australia with fiancée Rhea Ripley in order to attend a family event.

Matthews has been a regular on Collision in 2024, wrestling 10 times on AEW’s Saturday night show since January. Buddy’s last pay-per-view appearance came during Malakai Black’s Cage Match against Adam Copeland at Double or Nothing in May 2024, whilst his last PPV match came at Dynasty in April, with The House of Black defeating Copeland, Eddie Kingston, and Mark Briscoe in trios action.

There is currently no word on when Matthews is scheduled to return to AEW TV.
