WWE NXT Considering Bringing Back Old WCW Gimmick

WWE NXT considering bringing in a ref cam

The revival of an old gimmick utilised by World Championship Wrestling is being considered within WWE NXT.

According to Fightful Select, WWE NXT have discussed bringing in a referee cam and the concept could soon be used on the Tuesday night show. WCW previously utilised the Refer-eye cam in the early 1990s where the referee would wear a helmet with a camera attached during matches. The cam was notably derided by fans, although cameras are now much better than they were in the 1990s.

Who is behind the possible introduction of the ref cam is unknown. WWE NXT production is currently headed up by Vice President of Line Producing Brian Fadem, while Shawn Michaels is in charge of the day-to-day running of NXT.

A ref cam has been utilised across the sports world, including in ice hockey and American football. It has also been used sparingly in football and a ref cam was utilised for the first time in the Premier League earlier this year for the May match between Manchester United and Crystal Palace by Jarred Gillett.

WWE NXT held their most recent major event on Sunday night with Heatwave. Tuesday night's show also featured the return of Joe Hendry
