Backstage Update On WWE's Plans For Roman Reigns

Big plans for the Big Dog following SummerSlam return...

Roman Reigns returned at the end of SummerSlam, running in to attack new WWE Champion The Fiend and Braun Strowman following their title match.

SummerSlam marked The Big Dog's first WWE appearance since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reigns was scheduled to wrestle Goldberg for the WWE Title at WrestleMania 36, but opted to withdraw due to concern around him being immunocompromised, stemming from his leukemia.

He later commented that he was on hiatus in an attempt to protect his family, as he wasn't convinced all of his colleagues would take the pandemic as seriously as he was.

Roman is now back in the fold and right back in the title picture.

According to a report from wrestlingnews.co, the plan going forward is to give the Reigns character more of an 'edge'. Beyond that, the plan is for him to win the WWE Title from The Fiend, which may happen as soon as Payback on Sunday.

Whether this leads to him fully turning heel remains to be seen, but if the final scenes of SummerSlam are anything to go by, fans can expect to see a darker Roman Reigns in future.
