Chris Jericho G1 Supercard Match Scrapped After Vince McMahon, Tony Khan Asked Him Not To Wrestle

No Jericho in MSG

Chris Jericho has revealed he was scheduled to perform at Ring Of Honor and NJPW's joint G1 Supercard show in April 2019.

The historic event took place at WWE's spiritual home of Madison Square Garden over WrestleMania 35 weekend and the likes of Kazuchika Okada, Jay White, Jay Lethal, Will Ospreay and Kota Ibushi were in action.

Hiroshi Tanahashi was also on the card and Jericho revealed on his podcast that he was going to face The Ace at the show but he backed out when both AEW President Tony Khan and WWE Chairman Vince McMahon asked him not to work the show.

"I was actually going to do it against Tanahashi and then both Tony Khan and Vince McMahon asked me not to do it," Jericho said.

At the time, All Elite Wrestling was only a few months old and relations with ROH and NJPW were frosty due to former talents The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega leaving to start AEW.

WWE, meanwhile, were unhappy about other promotions running a show at MSG and Triple H reportedly called the venue and asked them to cancel the G1 Supercard's booking.

Jericho would go on to face Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 14 in January 2020 instead with Le Champion coming out on top.
