Jey Uso To Challenge For WWE Universal Title At Clash Of Champions

Who saw that coming?

Prior to Friday night, Jey Uso had not wrestled a match since May 25, and hadn't wrestled on a pay-per-view since the Elimination Chamber on March 8. Now, he's challenging a longtime ally for the Universal title at Clash of Champions.

Uso won a number one contender's four-way match on Friday night SmackDown over King Corbin, Matt Riddle, and Sheamus. Uso wasn't even originally scheduled for the match, only gaining entry after Sheamus took out Big E beforehand.

Uso will now face fellow Anoa'i family member Roman Reigns for the Universal championship at the pay-per-view.

Uso appeared in a backstage segment with Reigns earlier in the night. The implication was that Uso had been trying to keep in touch with Reigns, but hadn't heard from him in ages, and Reigns seemed to have little interest in hanging out with his old comrade.

The current card for WWE Clash of Champions, taking place Sunday night, September 27, at the Amway Center in Orlando, is as follows:

* WWE World: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Randy Orton

* WWE Universal: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Jey Uso
