Kenny Omega To Be Featured In Like A Dragon: Ishin!

Kenny Omega in Like a Dragon: Ishin!

Kenny Omega is set to appear in an upcoming video game!

SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced today that The Best Bout Machine will be making a cameo appearance in the remake of Like a Dragon: Ishin!, a spin-off from the Like a Dragon (FKA Yakuza) series. Omega will be a 'Trooper Card' in the remake and he can be summoned by players to help in battle with special abilities, attacks, or temporary stat boosts.

Omega's Trooper Card is "Essence of the One-Winged Angel", paying homage to his finisher. The description of his card is as follows: "A strapping fighter who's travelled through space, time, and reality to serve the Shinsengumi. It's said that his elite skills can summon the stars themselves."

The Trooper Card attack won't be similar to the actual One-Winged Angel, though, with Omega telling IGN: "It's completely different. It's not a wrestling hold. It takes into account that we are heavily influenced by swordplay, magic, and gunplay. I thought it was a chance to do something a little different. As much as I do want, hopefully someday, to have some of my actual wrestling manoeuvres in a game, for now I'm more than happy and thrilled to have a very unique and original attack that feels like it belongs in the universe."

Omega is a longtime fan of the Like a Dragon series and other Japanese video games, including Final Fantasy VII.

Originally released in 2014, the remake of Like a Dragon: Ishin! will be released on February 21, 2023 on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as PC. The game is set during the mid-1800s and players will control Sakamoto Ryoma, a lowly samurai who is forced to go into hiding after being accused of murder. The game centres around Ryoma's quest to discover the true killer's identity.

Wrestlers have appeared in other Like a Dragon video games, including Keiji Muto, Masahiro Chono, and Kazuchika Okada.
