Report: BJ Whitmer Had Heat In AEW Prior To Arrest

Whitmer had some heat prior to his firing this week

All Elite Wrestling fired coach and producer BJ Whitmer earlier this week following the 45-year-old's arrest on charges of domestic violence.

The former Ring of Honor star was arrested on June 4 in Boone County, Kentucky and charged with strangulation in the first degree and burglary in the second degree.

Each charge carries a penalty of 5-10 years in prison. He is currently out on release after posting $25,000 bond on June 12.

According to a new report, all had not been rosy with Whitmer backstage in AEW prior to him being let go. Per Fightful Select, Whitmer had some heat due to how he had produced a recent match.

The report did not specify which specific match he received heat for.

Known for his runs with ROH between 2003 and 2018, Whitmer had taken on backstage roles (as well as providing commentary) prior to leaving the company. He signed with AEW when the promotion was founded in 2019. The four-time Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champion last wrestled in March 2017.

Following Whitmer's firing, it emerged that his old rival Jimmy Jacobs had signed with AEW as a coach/producer (having put pen to paper this past weekend).
