Miro Requests AEW Contract Release

Miro has requested his release from AEW

Miro has reportedly requested his release from All Elite Wrestling.

The former TNT Champion has been seldom used by the company over the past few years, and a report from Fightful Select suggests ‘God’s Favourite Champion’ has asked for his release although it is unknown if AEW have or will grant it.

The former Rusev joined AEW in 2020 on a two-year deal, re-signing with the promotion in Spring 2022 for a further four years. If AEW decline Miro’s request then they will have him under contract until Spring 2026.

Miro’s initial run in AEW with Kip Sabian was so-so, but his transformation into the feared ‘Redeemer’ was lauded by fans and critics alike. However, Fightful’s report suggests that Miro and AEW failed to see eye-to-eye on creative matters, with Miro having only worked 11 matches for AEW since December 2021 - seven of which came in 2023.

The ‘Bulgarian Brute’ last wrestled on an AEW broadcast in December 2023, defeating Andrade El Idolo at Worlds End. Post-Worlds End, Miro was sidelined with injury, with his lay-off lasting longer than AEW anticipated. However it is believed that Miro has been healthy for some time, and pitched working a programme with Jon Moxley at some point in 2024. AEW also considered using Miro in the Casino Gauntlet match at AEW All In Wembley in August, but this didn’t materialise.
