Report: Drake Maverick Has Not Re-Signed With WWE

On April 15, WWE released 33 Superstars including EC3, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Zack Ryder, and Curt Hawkins. Nine producers were also furloughed while Kurt Angle was let go.

Drake Maverick (Rockstar Spud) was another Superstar who was released by the company, but the former AOP manager captured the hearts of wrestling fans around the world as he released a heartfelt video in the hours after he was let go by WWE. In the clip, Spud revealed he would still wrestle for the company in the Interim Cruiserweight Championship Tournament and instantly became the overwhelming favourite amongst fans to capture the gold.

WWE then used Maverick's video as part of an angle for his matches in the tournament in which he is fighting to win back his job. The storyline was featured heavily on last night's episode of NXT, and after his defeat to Jake Atlas, many believe the natural progression of the story will see Spud crowned as Interim Cruiserweight Champion after overcoming an uphill battle.

This doesn't appear to be the direction WWE will go in, however, as Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE has not offered Maverick a new deal and he will leave the company after his 90-day non-compete clause ends. 

Meltzer said: "As of this afternoon, he was under the same deal as Sarah Logan which is that they’re going to use them, but they’re still fired."

WWE could still offer Maverick a new deal in the next three months, but as of today, Rockstar Spud will depart the company in July.
