Report: Update On NXT Involvement In WWE Women's Tag Team Title Tournament

NXT could be heavily involved in crowning new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions.

NXT could be heavily involved in the search to crown new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions, according to Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live. Alvarez explained:

"They have sent word down to NXT to think about some women that might be able to be a team. That’s where we’re at right now, so yeah you might see [the likes of] Kacy and Kayden [Katana Chance and Kayden Carter] called up because 'we need teams.'"

It was announced on last week's SmackDown that Sasha Banks and Naomi had been stripped of the tag titles following their walkout on Monday, and that a tournament will be held to determine new champions.

However, as Alvarez pointed out, there is currently a lack of women's tag teams on the main roster - with the teams of Natalya and Shayna Baszler, and Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H. possibly the only current examples.

This would explain WWE's need to call up NXT tag teams to bolster the numbers for a tournament, although Alvarez also speculates that such call-ups would only be temporary.
