'Sombre Atmosphere' At WWE NXT Spring Breakin' Following Releases

'Sombre atmosphere' at WWE NXT this week

WWE carried out releases following WrestleMania 40 and seven talents have been released since Friday, April 19. Wrestlers let go include former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal, former NXT North American Champion Cameron Grimes, Sanga, Von Wagner, Veer, Xia Li, and Xyon Quinn.

Von Wagner in particular, had established himself as a featured performer on WWE NXT, having overcome the "Cum Tuesday" meme to become a popular babyface on the Tuesday night show. All of the talents let go had been a part of NXT during their careers as well.

WWE released the talents due to a combination of factors, including that the company perceived the wrestlers' experience with the company did not line up with their career trajectory.

According to Fightful Select, the atmosphere at NXT Spring Breakin' on Tuesday night was somewhat sombre because of the releases.

On-screen, the atmosphere at NXT Spring Breakin' was more jubilant and the show came to an end with Trick Williams defeating Ilja Dragunov to capture the NXT Championship. Williams then celebrated with the fans inside the WWE Performance Center as NXT went off the air.

WWE's plans call for Trick to be the face of NXT for the foreseeable future.
