WWE Reportedly Thought Adam Cole Would Have A New Contract By Now

Cole's contract reportedly expires on Friday

People within WWE were reportedly under the impression that Adam Cole would have a new contract by now if he was going to stay.

Cole's future has been up in the air in recent weeks amid reports that the former NXT Champion's contract with WWE expires in August. Further reports clarified this week that Cole's contract with the promotion runs out on Friday 27 August, with Cole making his final NXT appearance in defeat to Kyle O'Reilly at TakeOver 36 on Sunday.

In the latest update which appears to suggest Cole's future is away from WWE, Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Podcast is reporting that individuals within WWE were sure Cole would be presented with and would go on to sign a new deal this week. However, that feeling has shifted in the past two days, indicating Cole may indeed be moving on from WWE.

The 32-year-old has been heavily tipped to make the move to All Elite Wrestling and join the likes of long-time friends Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, and partner Britt Baker in Tony Khan's promotion.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was said to personally meet with Cole in July at a Friday Night SmackDown taping and instructed the creative team to come up with enticing ideas to tempt Cole into staying.
