Young Lion Debuts Set For NJPW Summer Struggle Shows

2 new young lions will debut soon

Two new young lions will make their New Japan Pro-Wrestling debuts today.

NJPW announced on August 23 that Ryohei Oiwa and Kosei Fujita will face off at the four remaining Summer Struggle shows from August 24 to August 27 at Korakuen Hall. Each match will have a 10-minute time limit.

Standing at 180cm and 90kg, 22-year-old Ryohei Oiwa began amateur wrestling in middle school and continued during university. He ranked third in the Japanese Olympic Committee nationals in 2018 at 86kg. He entered the NJPW Noge Dojo earlier this year following tryouts in December 2020.

Kosei Fujita had a similar path to NJPW as Oiwa, joining the Noge Dojo in April following December 2020 tryouts. The 19-year old stands at 178cm and weighs in at 83kg. Fujita also wrestled in high school and won the Japanese Olympic Committee Western and Central Japan freestyle tournaments at 80kg.

The introduction of two new young lions follows the departures of Yuya Uemura and Yota Tsuji, who both went on excursion in recent weeks. Uemura is currently plying his trade on NJPW Strong while Tsuji is set to debut in RevPro soon.
