AEW Double Or Nothing's Estimated Buys Appear Favorable Early On

Good news for the company after it's debut show...

Nine months after the All In joint venture managed a healthy 50,000 buys, AEW Double or Nothing came close to doubling that effort. That's also without replay buys factored into the reported number.

Dave Meltzer reports that Double or Nothing did 98,000 buys between television and digital PPV services, with Meltzer noting a "50/50 split" between those two avenues. Making Double or Nothing's total more encouraging was its higher price point, as the traditional pay-per-view version cost $60.

The 98,000 factors in conventional pay-per-view outlets, as well as B/R Live, Fite and ITV Box Office. An estimated two-thirds of the buyers came from the United States and the UK.

The number is nearly 40,000 buys higher than the most-bought PPV in Impact Wrestling history (Genesis 2006 at roughly 60,000), and pre-replay buys, is on the cusp of topping ECW's most-bought event ever (Heat Wave 1999, at 99,000).

Meltzer adds that no pay-per-view without the benefit of regular TV exposure has done numbers quite like this in a decade and a half, when then-UFC star Tito Ortiz did big business in fights with Ken Shamrock and Chuck Liddell, in 2002 and 2004, respectively.
