The AEW Continental Classic began on the Thanksgiving Eve edition of AEW Dynamite from the Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Similar to the G1 Climax, the round-robin tournament has been split into two blocks, the Gold League and Blue League. The Continental Classic kicked off with three Gold League matches on Dynamite.

The opening contest of Dynamite saw Swerve Strickland continue to build momentum as he defeated Jay Lethal. Jay White then rebounded from his loss to MJF at Full Gear with a win over RUSH, a victory which he secured via nefarious means. In the main event of AEW Dynamite, Jon Moxley defeated Mark Briscoe.

All Continental Classic matches have a 20-minute time limit and everyone is banned from ringside. The points system is the same as football where the winner receives three points, wrestlers pick up one point for a draw, and the loser receives zero points.

The AEW Continental Classic will continue on Saturday's edition of Collision with two Blue League matches. Eddie Kingston will go one-on-one with Brody King, while Claudio Castagnoli will square off with Daniel Garcia.

The winner of the tournament will become the AEW Continental Champion. The title will be unified with the ROH World Championship and NJPW STRONG Openweight Title to create the Triple Crown Championship.

The current standings for the AEW Continental Classic are as follows:

Gold League:

1. Jon Moxley - 3 points 2. Jay White - 3 points 3. Swerve Strickland - 3 points 4. Rush - 0 points 5. Jay Lethal - 0 points 6. Mark Briscoe - 0 points
