AEW Open To Working With Kota Ibushi

Could Kota Ibushi wrestle in an AEW ring?

With the news that Kota Ibushi is a free agent after his New Japan contract expired, the wrestling world was abuzz at the prospect of the former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion plying his trade wherever he pleased, with GCW the first to announce an Ibushi appearance in the USA.

The elephant in the room though is AEW, due to Ibushi’s closeness to Kenny Omega, as well as several others on the roster. When asked on the possibility of Ibushi coming to AEW in some capacity, Tony Khan said the following on Busted Open Radio:

"There are a lot of great free agents in the world of pro wrestling. Certainly, Kota Ibushi is a great talent. When you have a name like that, everyone in the world of pro wrestling would be very fortunate to have in their promotion. We've wanted to work with him in the past, so it's certainly something we would have to consider."

Ibushi worked the pre-AEW PPV All In in 2018, teaming with The Young Bucks against Rey Fenix, Bandido, and Rey Mysterio, and when posed the Ibushi question by Dark Puroresu Flowsion, The Young Bucks were enthusiastic in their response:

“Love him. Miss him. He kept us in the loop the night of Tokyo Dome about Kenny [Omega]. Kept sending us little updates. Goes without question we’d love to have him around, or work with him. I think he has the ability to do whatever he wants,” said the Jacksons.
