AEW Planning Unique Presentation For Mistico Vs. Rocky Romero

A flavour of Arena Mexico coming to AEW Rampage

Mistico (FKA Sin Cara) will return to the United States later this week and the Lucha Libre legend is scheduled to make his AEW debut on the Friday, October 20 episode of Rampage. Mistico, who is the NWA World Historic Middleweight Champion, will face Rocky Romero, the holder of the NWA World Historic Welterweight Title in a match that will be taped on Wednesday, October 18 in Rosenberg, Texas.

AEW seemingly have big plans for the match and Dave Meltzer has reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Mistico vs. Rocky Romero will have a unique presentation.

"So this Mistico was one of his favourite wrestlers and the first, by weird coincidence, the first match that Mistico had for WWE as Sin Cara was in Champaign, Illinois and Tony Khan was there and Tony Khan sent the arena report to me for that show. He's always wanted to book this guy. It was because they were working with AAA, politically, it's not the easiest thing. Rocky's got a lot of influence in CMLL and made it work. And the idea, from what I understand, is to make this an authentic Arena Mexico match with the Arena Mexico video footage, with the Arena Mexico music," Meltzer said.

AEW have been working with AAA since 2019 and the Lucha Libre promotion has a bitter rivalry with CMLL in Mexico. According to reports, though, there will be no issues for AEW as long as talent from AAA and CMLL aren't in the ring together at the same time.

The 'cathedral of lucha libre', Arena Mexico has been the home of CMLL (FKA EMLL) since Salvador Lutteroth constructed the building in 1956. The Mexico City venue has a capacity of 16,500.
