AEW's Kenny Omega: I've Already Saved American Wrestling, I Will Come & Save The Japanese Wrestling World If They Ask Me

Setting up future feuds?

AEW World Champion Kenny Omega had some harsh words for Japanese wrestling promotions during an interview with Tokyo Sports, an outlet where interviews are predominantly conducted in kayfabe.

After being asked about Japanese wrestling's struggles during the COVID-19 pandemic, Omega took a shot at wrestlers' abilities and claimed matches in Japan haven't been very exciting.

"We've had a period of time where there were no fans and no crowd noises. We never wanted COVID to happen but one thing was clear through this situation. Without any special VTRs or special effects, and promotions couldn't do flashy entrances, the wrestlers had to stand out on their own abilities. You get to see the true colours of some of these wrestlers. Have you seen the matches and tournaments of promotions other than AEW? Not so exciting isn't it?" Kenny began.

After the interviewer noted his point of view was harsh, Omega continued: "You won't realise this in the good times. Unfortunately, it's not just the wrestlers but some promotions are unable to understand this current situation. I can save them all by myself but... certain promotions don't want to rely on me. And I don't care if you get mad reading this. But can you say I am wrong? I've already proven myself. With the success of AEW along with it. I'm sure the Japanese fans haven't forgotten me yet, right? I'm still the number one gaijin in their eyes."

Omega then proclaimed he would be willing to "save the Japanese wrestling world" if he was asked.

"My job is to save the wrestling world. I've already saved American wrestling. If you ask for me, I will come and save the Japanese wrestling world for you too," The Best Bout Machine added.

The AEW World Champion also noted the promotion probably would have held an event in Japan already if not for the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Absolutely. If it wasn't for COVID, we'd probably have done it already! I'm always waiting to go back to Japan at any moment. But until that day, goodbye and good night," he continued.

Before joining All Elite Wrestling, Omega was one of the biggest stars in New Japan Pro-Wrestling and The Best Bout Machine is a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion. He was also the inaugural IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion.
