AEW Says Cody Rhodes Not Medically Cleared To Wrestle

Rough going for "The American Nightmare"...

Cody Rhodes was quite roughed up during the course of his near thirty-minute AEW World title match against champion Chris Jericho last night at Full Gear.

In addition to suffering a gnarly wound near his eyebrow off of a a missed dive from the ring, Rhodes also sustained a costochondral (rib) separation on the same landing. Both Jim Ross and Excalibur noted during the match that Rhodes seemed to be favoring his ribs.

AEW tweeted that, in addition to the rib injury, Rhodes required eight stitches to close the head wound. As a result, Rhodes, "...is not cleared for in ring action at this time."

It was reported earlier that after Rhodes' bad landing on the entrance ramp, company doctor Michael Sampson had the option of halting the match if he felt Rhodes required immediate medical attention. Sampson, of course, allowed the match to continue.

Rhodes lost via corner submission when, after he was hopelessly trapped in Jericho's Lion Tamer, cornerman MJF threw in the towel for the surrender. MJF then gave Rhodes a low blow in the post-match angle, solidifying him completely as a heel.
