AJ Mendez On A Possible In-Ring Return In WOW: "Don't Hold Your Breath"

No in-ring return planned for AJ

While she had been away from the industry since her retirement in 2015, it was revealed on Wednesday that AJ Mendez would be returning to professional wrestling as part of the relaunch of WOW - Women Of Wrestling. Mendez will serve as an executive producer and colour commentator when the new series launches in 2022.

With her return to wrestling, some have wondered if the 34-year-old will step back inside the squared circle. Speaking with Women Of Wrestling's Izzy, Mendez quashed hopes of a return, though, saying she could wrestle but she is enjoying letting the next generation have the spotlight.

"I say the same thing in every interview, and it's 'never say never, but don't hold your breath.' And what I mean by that is that I never say never to anything. Physically, mentally, emotionally, I'm healed from everything I've gone through in wrestling. I could technically do it, but I am so enjoying letting the next generation have their spotlight. I got to do everything I want to do, so it would have to be 'Is that challenge there?' I don't think the girls need me there, I think they're going to take over the world all by themselves," Mendez said.

Mendez is most famous for her time as AJ Lee in WWE from 2009 to 2015. She became a three-time Divas Champion during her time with the company but she retired in 2015 because of damage to her cervical spine.
