Another Potential CM Punk Reference On WWE SmackDown

Corey Graves made a potential reference to CM Punk on SmackDown

Whether it be fans looking too deeply into it or whether WWE are already teasing the arrival of CM Punk, there have seemed to be several teases during promos about Punk on WWE programming. Many of these have specifically come amidst Seth Rollins’ segments, perhaps indicating a feud between the pair.

In the lead up to Cody Rhodes signing with WWE, there was a similar trend with vague references in promos and on commentary, and ultimately this did end up seeing Rhodes arrive at WrestleMania 38 for a return to the company. The latest tease or reference came on SmackDown last night.

When running down the card for the upcoming Fastlane premium live event, Corey Graves spoke the phrase, “the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was making people forget he ever existed”. He did this whilst the Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura match popped up on the screen. Fans will remember that this phrase was famously used by CM Punk in ROH, and it was brought up once again during his feud with AEW as the centrepiece of the rivalry. Although other “references” felt a little uncertain, this one has felt the most intentional yet.
