Anthony Ogogo Reveals Eye Injury Means AEW Career Is On Borrowed Time

The Olympic boxing medalist has been groomed for success in AEW

As seen on AEW: Dynamite in recent weeks, QT Marshall’s Factory stable have been running roughshod over AEW, with Anthony Ogogo in particular highlighted as a dominant threat.

The former Olympic boxing bronze medalist has been given a hell of a rub on AEW TV, but whilst speaking to Sport and Life, Ogogo himself admitted that his career is on borrowed time due to a serious eye condition.

"I'm essentially blind in my left eye,” said Ogogo “I haven't got great vision from the left side, which is why I can't box anymore, unfortunately. I'm 78% blind in my left eye. It's rubbish. There are a lot of things I can't do in wrestling now, but what am I going to do, sulk the rest of my life? I refuse to do that. I'm not letting this injury take away a chance to be happy and successful. I'm probably one big shot from my left eye being totally blind. Hopefully, it doesn't come.”

However, Ogogo hasn’t told any of his fellow wrestlers to give him special treatment or avoid his eye saying "No, it's up to me not to get hit in the eye. I'll be protecting it like my life depends on it.”

Regardless, Ogogo’s brief run thus far in AEW has gone very well, and it hasn’t escaped Ogogo:

"I guess I'm doing well,” said Ogogo “I'm in the deep end now and big things are happening with me. I'm not Tony Khan, but I've obviously impressed certain people with what I've been able to do. I'm on the cusp of big things. I beat up Cody Rhodes. Him and Chris Jericho are the two biggest stars in AEW and I've beaten up Cody three times now. Left him in a heap in the middle of the ring. My eye is a ticking timebomb, I'm very aware of that. One big shot to my eye and my career is done. It could happen next week. I want to be successful as quickly as possible because I don't know how long my career is going to last."
