Athena Reveals Why She Turned Heel In AEW

Athena was looking for a new way to stand out

AEW star Athena has spoken about what prompted her heel turn, noting that her recent change in attitude was done out of a fear of being 'lost in the shuffle'.

Appearing on Busted Open Radio, The Fallen Goddess explained the reason behind the turn, saying:

"Cause I feel like it. Sometimes, nice guys finish last. Sometimes, you just get frustrated and it's really hard because you're trying to find an opportunity to not get lost in the shuffle because at AEW, there are so many talented women just across the board and it's like, 'What can you do to stand out?'. You're asking your questions like, 'Why am I stuck in this position? Why is this happening to me? Am I not good?'. Finally, you have to just say 'eff it'".

Athena has been wrestling a much more vicious style of late, as well as delivering beatdowns and attacking referee Aubrey Edwards.

Though she worked as a babyface for the entirety of her WWE run (as Ember Moon) and until recently in AEW, Athena is no stranger to playing the villain and had hoped she would get the chance to do it again, telling Busted Open:

"I worked my entire indie career as the bad guy going around. I even got given the nickname 'The American Joshi' because of my hard-hitting style...it's something I've always wanted to get back to".
