Backstage News On FOX Bleeping Out The Rock's Cursing On WWE SmackDown

Backstage news on how The Rock's WWE promos come together

The Rock put together another critically acclaimed performance on the March 15 edition of Friday Night SmackDown as Dwayne Johnson played a song for Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins ahead of their main event tag team match at WrestleMania 40.

The segment featured cursing, something that has been common in The Rock's segments since his return to WWE TV in January 2024. Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that the network would tell the vast majority of talents to simply not swear but FOX is able to bleep out The Rock's profanity as they are supplied with a copy of Dwayne Johnson's script before SmackDown begins.

"The deal with the TV is what they have to do is FOX gets the script ahead of time so they know when to bleep. The whole thing is The Rock promo is completely scripted but if it was anyone else they would just be not allowed to say it. With The Rock, it's like he can say whatever he wants but we know what he's going to say and when he's going to say it so anything they want to bleep out they will bleep out. And they know when to bleep it out because they are told ahead of time," Meltzer said.

The Rock's ability to curse on WWE TV has reportedly caused some issues behind the scenes, with WWE talents complaining about the perceived double standard as they are beholden to WWE's PG guidelines. The Rock has since addressed the report.
