After years of speculation and wishing from fans and wrestlers alike, WWE have introduced a women’s mid-card title for the main roster, with the Women’s United States Championship unveiled on the November 8 edition of SmackDown.

A report from Fightful Select suggests that whilst the women’s roster suspected a mid-card title was in the works, it was believed the belt would be introduced in December or January due to the ongoing push towards Survivor Series on November 30.

The Women’s United States Championship was unveiled by SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, but as of writing it isn’t known how WWE will crown the first ever champion. It is also currently unclear if WWE will be introducing a women’s mid-card championship for Raw talent, with a Women’s Intercontinental Championship surely the next move for WWE.

NXT were the first to introduce a women’s mid-card championship, with the Women’s North American Championship introduced in April, Kelani Jordan winning a six-woman ladder match to become inaugural champion at NXT Battleground on June 9.

The Women’s US Championship will join the WWE Women’s Championship, World Championship, and Women’s Tag Team Titles on the main roster.
