Backstage News On Private Party Winning The AEW World Tag Team Titles
Private Party winning the AEW World Tag Titles was not the original plan
Nov 23, 2024
At AEW’s Fright Night special of Dynamite on October 30, Private Party ended the 192-day reign of The Young Bucks by becoming the brand new AEW World Tag Team Champions for the first time in their careers, completing a five year journey to the gold. When it comes to their title win, it was reportedly not something initially planned by Tony Khan.
The pair battled The Young Bucks at the WrestleDream PPV earlier in the month, coming up short in an acclaimed match, in which it was reported that some in AEW wanted the duo to come out victorious. This match served as a turning point, as Bryan Alvarez notes in Figure Four Weekly that Tony Khan’s mind was swayed in that direction after seeing the success of the WrestleDream match.
It wasn’t necessarily a last minute change, but it wasn’t the original plan. Khan decided to shake things up and crown Private Party as new AEW World Tag Team Champions. It is also noted that The Young Bucks are very big fans of Private Party, which could have also played a role in their win.
