Backstage Reaction To Damian Priest Missing SummerSlam

Despite WWE’s 2025 edition of SummerSlam having two nights for the first time ever, former World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest has not managed to make the card for the MetLife Stadium show. He is currently embroiled in a feud with Aleister Black on Friday Night SmackDown, though the first match in their series took place on the blue brand rather than the premium live event. 

When it comes to those backstage in WWE, Fightful Select have reported that there is some surprise amidst staff regarding Priest being missed off the SummerSlam card, with it being expected that Priest would have a larger role at the show. This comes after his work during his feud with Drew McIntyre, where he emerged as the winner during their Steel Cage match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The backstage reaction to their feud and match was one of positivity, with both men working through injuries during the program. 

Priest’s feud with Aleister Black may also not bode well for him, as reports emerged in recent months that WWE were planning a big push for the recently returned Black.
