In 2023, Jacob Fatu was reportedly paid $2,633 (as well as a plane ticket and hotel accommodations) to appear at a pro-wrestling fundraiser organised by the non-profit organisation Jake's Network of Hope (JNOH).

According to a Reddit post by someone associated with JNOH, Fatu did not show up as scheduled, citing a 'family emergency'. According to the post, JNOH did not receive the money they had paid Fatu back after his cancellation.

Per an NBC story on the situation, JNOH wanted to keep the matter quiet but decided to go public after learning that other organisations had similar experiences with Fatu.

Providing an update on the situation, SI reached out to JNOH's Director of Development, Jenn Harper, who gave the following statement:

"Jacob Fatu and our organisation are addressing this matter privately, beginning with a phone call and heartfelt apology back in May. While the full amount owed hasn't yet been repaid, we appreciated Jacob's acknowledgment. It can be tough to face up to your wrongdoings, and we commend him for taking steps toward confronting his".

The 32-year-old has previously been arrested and served time in jail for robbery.

WWE reportedly consider Fatu a 'major future player' within the company.
