In 2023, Chelsea Green became one half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Sonya Deville, who was later replaced by Piper Niven. Her reign with the gold lasted 154 days, and in that time Green’s husband Matt Cardona, formerly known as Zack Ryder in WWE, had some fun when it came to this reign.

Just a few days after Chelsea Green won her first title in WWE, Cardona competed at a DDT show in a match against Tetsuya Endo, and when making his entrance he wore a replica of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title belt. This was done without Green’s knowledge, and when speaking on the Lightweights Podcast, she revealed that she thought she’d be in trouble with WWE.

“Oh my gosh. Okay, so he (Matt Cardona) came and watched me win the (Women’s Tag) title in Atlanta and I guess, after I won the title, he immediately went online and bought the replica. Bought the replica, got it overnighted by WWE Shop or Fanatics and had it like two days later to go to Japan with. He didn’t ask me, he didn’t tell me. I saw him with it in Japan, and everyone thought because it was on — he was in Japan on my days off, everyone thought that it was the real belt… And I was just waiting for someone at work to call me and ask. Thank God, they did not believe it. But I was worried, I’m not gonna lie because he does stuff like that. He does crazy things. He makes videos out of all my wrestling stuff. I am the butt of all his jokes. So, I really thought the WWE was gonna get mad at me and I was gonna have to prove, here I am, this is the belt. He’s got a different one.”

Cardona has been competing on the independent scene and been around promotions such as IMPACT, NWA, and GCW for several years, though Green did recently note that she believes it is only a “matter of time” before Cardona is back in the WWE fold.
