Chris Charlton made his return to the New Japan Pro-Wrestling commentary desk today and he was on the call for NJPW 53rd Anniversary alongside Walker Stewart.
Stewart acknowledged Charlton's absence at the start of the event, saying, "Good God I thought they shot you into the sun." Charlton laughed it off, adding, "You wish Walker" before they turned their attention to the opening contest.
Chris Charlton had been absent from the NJPW commentary desk since he made anti-AEW comments during Kenny Omega vs. Gabe Kidd at NJPW x AEW Wrestle Dynasty on January 5. During the match, Charlton called Tony Khan a "money mark", unfavourably compared the AEW Continental Classic to the NJPW G1 Climax, and questioned what Jay White, Will Ospreay and Kazuchika Okada had done since they left New Japan and signed with All Elite Wrestling.
It was revealed soon after that Charlton had been suspended for two months by New Japan Pro-Wrestling and he had been absent from NJPW commentary since New Year Dash on January 6. Bushiroad CEO Takaaki Kidani reportedly decided to suspend Charlton for insulting a business partner. AEW were also said to be unhappy about Charlton's comments but they had no input on him being suspended.
Charlton has been a popular announcer in New Japan Pro-Wrestling for several years.
