Chris Jericho Reveals Plans For John Carpenter-Inspired Cinematic Street Fight With Mike Tyson

Chris Jericho? Mike Tyson? John Carpenter? Sounds like cinema

Literally anything is possible in the world of professional wrestling, no matter how left-field it may sound when put on paper.

Take the feud between Chris Jericho and boxing icon Mike Tyson, with Tyson and ‘The Ocho’ squaring off in an All Elite Wrestling ring in 2020. Whilst a full blown saga between the two never materialised, there were plans for something outlandish, as Jericho himself revealed on the AEW-some podcast:

"Mike Tyson and I almost had a cinematic match. We were this close to doing it, Tyson vs. Jericho in a New York Street Fight, but we couldn't make it happen. We really were deep in negotiations too. We were going to do it in New York in an alley, like an alley fight, basically. Think 'They Live' with Tyson and Jericho, that's what I had in mind," Jericho said

For those who have never seen ‘They Live’, the cult classic John Carpenter sci-fi centres around Roddy Piper being able to see shapeshifting aliens who infiltrated society with the help of some special sunglasses. The movie is known for several now infamous quips and slogans, but its pinnacle is a protracted brutal fistfight between Piper and Keith David over wearing a pair of glasses.
