Cody Rhodes Says He Wants To Finish The Story Against Roman Reigns After Royal Rumble Win
Cody Rhodes has chosen his WrestleMania 40 opponent after his Royal Rumble win
Jan 28, 2024
For the first time in over 25 years, a WWE superstar went back to back with Royal Rumble victories. Cody Rhodes entered at number 15 in the men’s Royal Rumble match, lasting 43 minutes and eliminating 4 men, going on to win the whole thing by last dumping out CM Punk.
The end of the show saw him point towards the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, who was sitting in the crowd watching the Rumble match unfold. In the post show press conference, Rhodes touched on whether he was officially choosing Reigns as his opponent for WWE WrestleMania 40 after a question asked by WrestlingNews.Co.
“I feel like everyone knew that, right? I’m very glad he decided to take the sky box seat. It could make it really clear where we’re at. All due respect in the world to Seth Rollins. That title gains more prestige every single day, but WrestleMania 39 did happen. If you’re me, you can’t look at that and you can’t run from it. I want to be back in the ring with Roman Reigns and I want to finish the story. I detest the statement now because, apparently, everyone has a story. Punk wanted a story, Drew has a story, everyone has a story. A big part for me, I’m very big on keeping my word. If I say something silly on TV, but it’s a promise, I intend to keep the promise. I don’t know if two times is the charm with Roman, we’ll see.”
Rhodes of course was on the losing end of the WrestleMania 39 main event when challenging Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title last year.
