Cody Rhodes Somber Backstage At WWE SmackDown

Cody had his WrestleMania main event with Roman Reigns taken away by The Rock.

The big talking point coming out of the February 2 episode of SmackDown was 2024 Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes stepping aside so that The Rock could challenge Undisputed WWE Universal Champion at WrestleMania XL.

A potential match between The People's Champion and The Tribal Chief has been talked about for years and is evidently set to happen in Philadelphia.

This obviously means that The American Nightmare will be unable to 'finish the story' by defeating Reigns in a rematch from last year's WrestleMania main event. Many WWE fans have revolted against the idea of Roman Reigns vs. The Rock at WrestleMania.

According to a new report from Fightful Select, Cody was professional about the situation backstage, but probably seemed somber in retrospect (now that many know what was happening).

Rhodes is now poised to take on World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins at The Showcase of the Immortals (should Rollins be champion at the time).

Some fans commented on Cody's seemingly dejected demeanour during the segment, specifically when he left the ring to allow The Rock and Reigns to have a stare-down.

Interestingly, WWE re-uploaded the segment onto their YouTube channel but edited out the part where Cody looks sad.
