The feud between Kevin Owens and Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has really heated up in recent weeks, especially after the brutal attack Owens dished out Rhodes following their title match at the recent reboot of Saturday Night’s Main Event, where Owens left Rhodes being taken out on a stretcher. In the aftermath of his attack, Owens stole the Winged Eagle WWE Championship that Rhodes wore as a one-time treat, declaring himself the champion.

On last night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Kevin Owens lobbied for a title match due to the injustice he felt occurred at Saturday Night’s Main Event where he scored a visible pinfall on Rhodes and was pinned only after being the subject of a Cross Rhodes on a chair. Owens refused to hand back over the Winged Eagle belt to Aldis, and was threatened with being fired.

Cody Rhodes emerged for the first time since his injury and suggested that both titles be suspended in the air in a ladder match at the upcoming Royal Rumble premium live event in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 1. Aldis made the match official.
