WWE brought the legendary Winged Eagle out of retirement for one night at Saturday Night’s Main Event, but plans seemingly changed due to Kevin Owens stealing the title after a brutal assault on champion Cody Rhodes.

Owens left the Nassau Coliseum with the title belt after planting Cody with a Package Piledriver before clashing on the entrance way with WWE COO Triple H and leaving with the title as Rhodes was stretchered to the back.

The ‘Prize Fighter' has since taken to X/Twitter to declare himself the rightful champion, and will be defending the title soon:

“BALLZ!!! Now that I have your attention, I have great news for you all! I am proud to officially announce that I will be competing in my first matches as your new, true WWE Champion on this year’s Holiday loop (that’s a term people in “the business” use that refers to a string of consecutive shows in different cities over a short period of time) starting in Jacksonville on the 26th, followed by 3 more shows in Florida and then one in Detroit for some reason. Be there to witness history! Oh, the Raw crew has shows too. Whatever,” posted Owens.

Sanctioned or not, this marks Owens' second world championship run in WWE, with Owens having previously reigned as WWE Universal Champion for 188 days in 2016 and 2017. There are no plans to book Owens vs. Triple H, despite their confrontation.
