Chris Jericho recently made a surprise appearance in GCW to attack ROH World Title challenger Matt Cardona, raising further questions about the relationship between AEW and GCW.

Things have not been straightforward as of late with regards to AEW and GCW working together, with AEW pulling Ricky Starks from a series of planned appearances in the promotion, allegedly due to disparaging remarks made by GCW’s Effy.

With Jericho appearing at GCW Highest in the Room 3 - never mind GCW regular Cardona appearing in AEW and ROH - it further muddies the nature of the relationship between the two companies to outside eyes. AEW/ROH CEO Tony Khan was asked about this during the ROH Final Battle media call, saying the following:

"Matt [Cardona] helped put that together," said Khan. "Matt asked me about it, and obviously, I was happy to send Chris to promote the match that is happening on ROH as part of the double main event. It's something we spent weeks building up on ROH and AEW TV, which is a nice thing. There is a lot of matches and potential things that could happen with Matt being the challenger and potentially being the ROH World Champion going forward. That's something to keep an eye on. With Matt appearing there, and this being a title match, it made sense to do something to promote. It's very much along the lines of things we've done with other matches along the ways over the years."

Cardona has reportedly been offered an AEW/ROH contract ahead of Final Battle.
