Ricky Starks showed up at GCW’s Dream On event last week, cutting a promo on being ‘frozen out’ of AEW, and detailing his desire to begin competing elsewhere, such as in GCW. In the week following this appearance, Starks was announced for upcoming GCW shows, but was ultimately then removed from the events by AEW this week, reportedly due to comments made in an interview by GCW star Effy regarding Tony Khan and his family.

GCW have now announced the replacement for Ricky Starks at December 14’s Highest In The Room 3 event for his match against Matt Cardona. The one stepping in will be none other than Effy, a replacement too ironic to have not been purposeful.

Effy’s comments emerged on a podcast where he questioned Tony Khan’s decision to run the Hammerstein Ballroom just a month before GCW. When it comes to the status of Starks, his AEW deal is expected to run further into 2025, with Starks speculating several suspicions he has as to why AEW have decided against using him for the majority of this year.
