Matt Cardona could be set to stick around in All Elite Wrestling/Ring of Honor.

Following reports that there was "at least talk of Cardona getting an AEW contract", Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion has been offered a contract by AEW.

"I know he was offered a contract. I don't know if he's signed or anything," Meltzer said.

Matt Cardona made his ROH debut and returned to AEW TV earlier this month to kick off a feud with Chris Jericho over the ROH World Championship. Cardona will challenge for ROH's top title at Final Battle on December 20 inside New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom.

Cardona has worked for the likes of Game Changer Wrestling and TNA in 2024 but he has remained a free agent throughout the year. The ROH World Title feud was featured in GCW over the weekend as Chris Jericho laid out Matt Cardona and EFFY. EFFY was recently at the centre of controversy in AEW after his comments about Tony Khan and Shad Khan led to AEW cancelling Ricky Starks' dates with GCW.

Prior to his December return, Matt Cardona had a short run with AEW in the Summer of 2020. He also made a one-night return to the promotion earlier this year, taking on Adam Copeland in a TNT Title open challenge match.
