The culmination of Survivor Series: WarGames 2025 saw WWE build some tension between reigning WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and long-time rival-turned-ally Roman Reigns. Prior to the premium live event, it had been teased in reports that WarGames would give an indication of what to expect at WrestleMania 42 next year when it comes to the top matches in the men’s division, with both Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns and CM Punk vs. Bron Breakker being expected for the event.
However, according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plans for the main event matches at WrestleMania 42 may still be up in the air. This is all due to the potential of a Seth Rollins return in the lead-up to the show, with Rollins himself recently claiming a desire to return in time for WrestleMania. If this is indeed the case, it has been discussed of the possibility of Rollins in a marquee match - potentially against Bron Breakker. This would mean that plans could change for Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes, with it perhaps meaning Reigns vs. Punk or else a triple threat clash.
At present, the belief is that it is way too early to know for sure. WWE are still wanting to book a third match in the series between Reigns and Rhodes, but it may not be at WrestleMania in 2026.
