Cody Rhodes Wins Undisputed WWE Universal Title At WrestleMania 40

Cody Rhodes defeats Roman Reigns in the main event to win the unified titles

Cody Rhodes is the new Undisputed WWE Universal champion, after defeating Roman Reigns on the second night of WWE WrestleMania 40 on Sunday night in Philadelphia.

Rhodes pinned Reigns with three Cross Rhodes. The match included interference from The Usos, Solo Sikoa, The Rock, and Seth Rollins, as well as John Cena and The Undertaker. Afterward, Cody celebrated in the ring with Brandi.

The match was fought under Bloodline Rules, after The Rock pinned Rhodes in the tag team main event the previous night, enabling Reigns to choose the stipulation.

For Rhodes, it's his first World title(s) under the WWE banner. He previously reigned as ROH World champion in 2017 and NWA World champion in 2018.

Reigns' dual reigns both end after multi-year runs. His Universal title reign ends at 1316 days, and began after defeating Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman at WWE Payback on August 30, 2020 in Orlando. His WWE title reign ends after 735 days, which began when he beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 on April 3, 2022 in Dallas. With that latter win, Reigns unified the two belts.
