survivor series 2019

Raw, SmackDown, and NXT had it out with one another across seven different bouts, while three top brand belts were defended at the 33rd annual Survivor Series, taking place at Chicago's Allstate Arena.

Kickoff Show: SmackDown's Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode won a ten-team battle royal in 8:20

Other participants included Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder, The Street Profits, and The Good Brothers from Raw, Lucha House Party, The Revival, and Heavy Machinery from SmackDown, and The Forgotten Sons, Breezango, and Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel of NXT/NXT UK. Roode eliminated Montez Ford of The Street Profits to win.

Kickoff Show: NXT's WWE Cruiserweight champion Lio Rush def. Kalisto and Akira Tozawa in 8:20

NXT's first win of the night came during a brisk Cruiserweight match, with Rush being taken down by both opponent's finishers, only to be saved by the third participant from a pinfall each time. Kalisto hit Tozawa with Salida del Sol, but Rush came off the top with a splash onto Kalisto to retain the title.

Kickoff Show: Raw's Viking Raiders def. The New Day and Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly in 14:35

Raw gets themselves on the board with the win here, evening it up at one win apiece. The New Day were taken out late in the contest, and Ivar overcame a barrage from the Undisputed Era, en route to winning with the Viking Experience.

Women's Survivor Series: Team NXT (Bianca Belair, Candice LeRae, Io Shirai, Rhea Ripley, and Toni Storm) def. Team Raw (Asuka, Charlotte Flair, Kairi Sane, Natalya, and Sarah Logan) and Team SmackDown (Carmella, Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans, Nikki Cross, and Sasha Banks) in 27:50

Stories of the match were LeRae and Shirai being taken out with injuries early on, putting NXT at a disadvantage. The match whittled down after a number of eliminations by Banks and Natalya, before Banks turned on Nattie and eliminated her. It came down to Banks and Ripley, during which LeRae and Shirai returned to run interference, leading to Ripley surviving following the Riptide.

NXT's Roderick Strong def. AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura in 16:45

NXT took a 3-1-1 advantage after a well-worked triple threat match featuring the three secondary champions of each brand. Strong was out of the picture late when Styles and Nakamura fought for the winning move. Styles landed the Phenomenal Forearm, but Strong, in the classic triple threat finish, threw Styles out and stole the pin for himself.

NXT champion Adam Cole def. Pete Dunne in 14:10

Notably, Cole didn't seem to be all that much worse for wear following the beating he sustained in War Games. Each man kicked out of each other's finish, before Cole reversed the Bitter End into Panama Sunrise, followed by a second Last Shot to retain.

Universal champion The Fiend def. Daniel Bryan in 10:00

The red lighting continues unabated, by (un)popular demand. Despite this, Bryan's underdog work had the crowd firmly invested, as he countered one Mandible Claw by getting an armbar over the ropes. Despite Bryan's most feverish efforts and near-falls, he fell victim to another Mandible Claw, and was pinned in the hold.

Men's Survivor Series: Team SmackDown (Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, King Corbin, Mustafa Ali, and Shorty G) def. Team Raw (Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, Randy Orton, and Ricochet) and Team NXT (Tommaso Ciampa, Damian Priest, Matt Riddle, Keith Lee, and WALTER) in 29:25

SmackDown pulled within one of NXT, making it 3-2-1 after Reigns stood tall as sole survivor. WALTER was the first man eliminated, pinned by McIntyre, which Chicago didn't react well to. Reigns and Rollins worked in tandem at the end to take on Lee and Ciampa of NXT. Finally, it came down to Reigns and Lee, with Reigns kicking out of the Spirit Bomb, and finishing Lee off with the spear.

WWE champion Brock Lesnar def. Rey Mysterio in 6:40

Lesnar destroyed Mysterio early, prompting Dominick to try and throw in the towel for his father. Lesnar prevented it, and the bout functionally became a handicap match. The Mysterios hit tandem maneuvers, before Brock kicked out, German'd Dominick, and caught Rey with an F5 to retain.

NXT's Shayna Baszler def. Becky Lynch and Bayley in 18:00

NXT wins the night 4-2-1, with Raw's lone win coming via the Viking Raiders on the Kickoff show. Lynch was taken out of the match late, and Bayley fought her way out of one Kirifuda Clutch. A diving elbow was caught into a second one, which Bayley submit to. Afterward, Lynch attacked Baszler during her celebration, and put her through an announce table.
