Dakota Kai Gives Injury Update

Dakota Kai says rehab is going well and she could return from her injury soon

Dakota Kai may have been on WWE regularly since the SummerSlam 2023 premium live event, where she made a surprise cameo when celebrating Iyo Sky’s WWE Women’s Championship victory, but she has not stepped foot in the ring for a match for nine months or so.

She was put on the shelf with an ACL tear during WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship match with Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez on Friday Night SmackDown in May last year, and despite having a serious injury, some fans have pointed out that Kai appears to be moving quite well whenever she is on TV with her Damage CTRL teammates.

Kai responded to these particular comments during a Twitch stream, providing an update on her status and hitting back at those who say she is potentially faking her injury.

“I'm so sick of seeing people saying, 'She can run and jump, but she's not cleared still?' No, that's not how this works. Obviously, I can run and jump because I've been doing it for the last few months, but they have a set date for when you actually get cleared because I have to still do matches and they have to check all the boxes of when I'm actually cleared. I'm not going to be in a wheelchair for nine months and then suddenly stand up and go, 'I'm cured.' That's not how it works.”

She went on to talk about her rehab and training, revealing that it won’t be long until she is back in the ring to actually wrestle.

"I have been running. I have been jumping. Please stop with 'she's lying, she's faking.' Do you think it's been my choice to not wrestle for nine months? Do you think it's been my choice? No. I don't know when the clear date is. Please stop asking me. Rehab is going great though. It's definitely not long now.”

Damage CTRL have been dominating the SmackDown women’s division even in Kai’s absence from competition, recently adding two new members in Asuka and Kairi Sane.
