Between June 22nd 2007 and June 24th 2007, Chris Benoit murdered his wife, Nancy Benoit, and his son, Daniel Benoit. He then hanged himself in a double murder-suicide.

Chris's son, David Benoit spoke about the double murder-suicide for the first time earlier today in an interview with Chris Van Vliet.

David explained that he believes his father suffered from CTE, which helped him have some sort of closure after what happened.

He said: "It wasn't him man, it definitely wasn’t him. He would never do that bro. I know he wouldn’t. I think something terribly went wrong. The doctor said he had CTE so that’s what at the beginning gave me somewhat closure because it just made my life a little easier than having to think about it. He had CTE."

David also explained that he punched a police officer when he was first told about his father's death, and that coming to terms with what happened affected his time at school.

David added: "I punched a cop… I thought it was a joke. I just didn’t believe it for days. I think the day it really hit me was his funeral. That was a hard day."

On the days after the double murder-suicide, he said: "The news was f*****g non-stop. It was either about steroids, steroids, steroids, or that Nancy Grace joke. It was terrible man. I couldn't even walk around. I didn't finish school. I was 14 or 15. I didn’t finish my finals. I finished high school, but just not that year."

David did find closure after reading the 300-page police report and mentioned he was eventually able to come to terms with what his father had done and moved on. He explained: "I moved on bro, it happened, it happened. The way it went down was the way it went down."
