Blair Davenport was one of the several WWE wrestlers released from the company over this past weekend, along with the likes of The Good Brothers, Sonya Deville, AOP, Paul Ellering, Isla Dawn, Cedric Alexander and Giovanni Vinci. This ended her three and a half year stay with the promotion, starting out in NXT UK before coming over to NXT in the US, and then finally receiving her call up to the main roster last year.
Davenport hadn’t done a whole lot on Friday Night SmackDown since moving to the blue brand, hardly getting involved in storylines. It emerged at the start of January in a report that there were some plans to use Davenport more as SmackDown moved to three hours, but nothing emerged in terms of this aside from her talking to Piper Niven in a backstage segment.
Fightful Select have learned some more about the potential plans WWE had for Davenport prior to her release, as the ball was indeed rolling on doing something more prominent with her. It has been revealed that a pitch was made for Davenport to join the current duo of Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green and Piper Niven, with this even going as far as a “secret service outfit” getting prepared for Davenport, though it never ended up coming to fruition. This suggests that the decision to release Davenport could have been last minute and not something planned that had been planned for a while.
